Police Shoot Suspected Drugged Driver After He Rams Officers in Beit Shemesh

A dramatic incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon in central Beit Shemesh when police officers conducting a routine enforcement operation encountered a suspected drugged driver. The officers, part of a proactive campaign against crime and dangerous driving, noticed a private vehicle behaving suspiciously and suspected the driver was under the influence of drugs, posing a serious risk to public safety.

When officers ordered the 31-year-old driver to stop for identification and inspection, he instead accelerated aggressively toward them, striking two detectives. Recognizing the immediate threat to their lives, the officers fired precise shots at the vehicle to neutralize the danger and prevent further harm to bystanders or police.

Emergency medical teams from United Hatzalah and other services rushed to the scene on HaMa'apilim Street, providing urgent care. The driver suffered gunshot wounds and was evacuated in serious condition to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, accompanied by police for ongoing investigation once his condition stabilizes. The two injured officers were treated for minor injuries and also hospitalized.
