Police Officer Injured After Suspect Rams Vehicle During Arrest Attempt

A police officer in Israel's Central District sustained minor injuries on Monday during a dramatic attempt to arrest a suspect involved in multiple theft and burglary incidents. The suspect, a man in his 20s from Or Yehuda, was sought for questioning by police in Rishon LeZion and other stations regarding various property crimes.

Two officers from the Rishon LeZion station approached the suspect, who was known to them. Upon being asked to identify himself, the suspect abruptly entered his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. One officer, in a determined effort to prevent his escape and effect an arrest, clung to the car door.

The suspect continued driving with the officer holding onto the vehicle until she fell and was injured. She was taken for medical treatment and her condition was described as light. Following the incident, a large-scale manhunt was initiated by police forces.

The suspect was eventually located and apprehended for questioning. On Tuesday, police intended to request an extension of his detention from the Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court, depending on the investigation's needs and findings. The Central District Commander, Superintendent Amir Cohen, praised the officer's determination, stating, "The officer acted with determination and a drive to engage in order to arrest a suspect who tried to escape, even at personal risk. Our message is clear: anyone who harms police officers and tries to escape the law will encounter a determined police force that will act to locate him and bring him to justice."

The police emphasized that the investigation into the suspect's alleged crimes is ongoing.
