Police Officer Injured During Pursuit of Suspect in Central Israel
A police officer in Israel's Central District sustained minor injuries on Monday while attempting to apprehend a suspect involved in multiple theft and burglary incidents. The officer clung to the suspect's car door as he tried to flee, and was subsequently thrown onto the road when the suspect drove away. According to a police statement, two officers from the Rishon LeZion station identified the suspect, a man in his 20s from Or Yehuda, and requested he identify himself. At one point, the suspect entered his vehicle and began to escape. One of the officers attempted to prevent his getaway by grabbing onto the car door, but the suspect continued driving, causing the officer to fall onto the road. The injured officer was evacuated for medical treatment. Additional police forces launched a manhunt for the suspect. Following extensive searches, he was located and arrested for questioning. The police stated they intend to request an extension of his detention at the Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court, depending on the investigation's needs and findings.
