Israeli Border Police Officer Chases Stolen Car, Suspect Crashes After Breaking Checkpoint
On Monday morning, a Border Police officer in Jerusalem spotted a suspicious stolen vehicle while driving to his base. The officer noticed the car had a broken rear window and the driver behaved erratically. When the officer signaled the driver to stop for inspection, the suspect, an Arab resident of the village Bidu, fled at high speed, endangering other road users and disobeying orders.
The officer pursued the vehicle and fired a single shot that hit the car. He also alerted Border Police forces stationed at the Al-Jib checkpoint near Jerusalem, who prepared to stop the vehicle by closing the checkpoint gates. Despite this, the suspect rammed through the checkpoint gates, causing the car to overturn.
Border Police officers from the Jerusalem area, along with the pursuing officer, subdued and arrested the suspect. Investigations revealed the vehicle had been stolen shortly before the chase from Mevaseret Zion. The car was significantly damaged during the crash and was seized by authorities for further investigation.
