Israeli Border Police Arrest Suspect After Dramatic Chase on Highway 1
Over the weekend, Border Police detectives from the Mateh Yehuda station responded to a report of a stolen vehicle traveling from Gan Yavne toward Jerusalem on Highway 1. Upon receiving the alert, the officers positioned themselves along the route with additional police units and identified the stolen car near the Hemed interchange. They began covert surveillance and prepared to stop the vehicle.
When a traffic jam was caused by a deliberate police blockade, the detectives exited their vehicle and approached the stolen car to arrest the suspect. The suspect, a 43-year-old Palestinian resident from Tulkarm who was in Israel without legal permits, barricaded himself inside and refused to open the doors. The officers then broke a window to complete the arrest.
The suspect was taken for questioning at the Mateh Yehuda Border Police station in Jerusalem. His detention was extended by court order, and the stolen vehicle is expected to be returned to its owner shortly.
