Israeli Border Police Arrest Stubborn Car Thief on Route 1 Near Jerusalem
During the past weekend, Israeli Border Police officers from the Mateh Yehuda station intercepted a stolen vehicle on Route 1 near the Hemed interchange. The car had been reported stolen shortly before from the Gan Yavne area and was heading toward Jerusalem. Upon receiving the alert, the officers, supported by additional police vehicles, conducted a covert pursuit of the stolen car. When traffic was deliberately blocked by a police vehicle, the officers exited their car to arrest the suspect.
The suspect, a 43-year-old Palestinian resident from Tulkarm who was in Israel without legal permits, refused to exit the vehicle and barricaded himself inside. The officers were forced to break one of the car windows to complete the arrest. The suspect was taken for questioning at the Mateh Yehuda Border Police station in Jerusalem. His detention was extended by court order, and the stolen vehicle is expected to be returned to its rightful owner soon.
