Man Sentenced to 22 Years for Road Rage Murder

A 36-year-old man, Denis Mokin, has been sentenced to 22 years in prison by the Nazareth District Court for the brutal murder of 19-year-old Diar Omri. The fatal incident occurred on May 6, 2023, near the entrance to Kibbutz Gan Ner in the Gilboa region, stemming from Mokin's frustration with Omri's perceived slow driving. Mokin was also ordered to pay the victim's family the maximum legal compensation of 258,000 shekels.

According to court documents, Mokin was under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the incident and was driving despite having previously been disqualified from holding a license. While returning home, he became enraged when Omri, driving in front of him, did not proceed fast enough for Mokin's liking. Following a verbal altercation, Mokin stopped his car, exited with a pistol, and fired several shots into the air.

When Omri attempted to disarm Mokin, a struggle ensued, during which Mokin shot the victim multiple times in the chest. As Omri tried to reach his own vehicle, Mokin stood up and fired three more shots into his back. Omri collapsed, and Mokin fled the scene.

Later, Mokin returned with his sister and pressured her to falsely tell police that she was driving his car. Mokin was convicted of murder, driving while disqualified, driving under the influence, obstruction of justice, and intentional damage to a vehicle. In addition to his prison sentence and compensation payment, he received a suspended sentence and a three-year ban on obtaining a driver's license.
