Man Sentenced to 22 Years for Murder Committed Under Influence

The Nazareth District Court sentenced Denis Mukhin to 22 years in prison on Tuesday for the murder of Diyar Omri, a resident of Sandala. Mukhin was convicted last December of murder with indifference for the 2023 killing, which stemmed from a road dispute.

According to the ruling, Mukhin was driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol when an argument erupted with Omri. Mukhin drew a pistol and fired twice into the air. During a struggle over the weapon, Omri was shot. Mukhin then fired three more times at Omri as he tried to return to his vehicle, but missed.

Mukhin fled the scene but later returned with his sister, asking her to falsely identify herself to police as the driver. The court found Mukhin's testimony unreliable and rejected his claims that the shots hitting Omri during the struggle were accidental. His assertion that he believed Omri was a terrorist planning an attack was also dismissed.

However, a majority of the judges ruled that it was not proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Mukhin shot Omri during the struggle with the intent to kill. Therefore, the court determined Mukhin shot Omri with indifference to the possibility of causing his death.
