Killer Of Diyar Al-Amri Sentenced to 22 Years in Prison

The Nazareth Central Court has sentenced Denis Mokin to 22 years in prison for the killing of Diyar Al-Amri, who was from Sandala. The sentencing comes three years and four months after the crime occurred. In addition to the prison term, Mokin was fined 250,000 shekels, had his driver's license revoked, and his weapon confiscated.

Dozens of Al-Amri's family members, relatives, activists, and supporters attended the court hearing, though security prevented many from entering the courtroom. Mokin was convicted in December 2025 of "reckless homicide." The prosecution had sought a sentence of at least 26 years, while the defense argued for 14 to 18 years.

During past hearings, Mokin claimed the fatal shot was accidental, stating he believed Al-Amri was trying to grab his gun and felt his life was threatened by a potential nationalistic attack. However, the indictment details that on May 6, 2023, Mokin, under the influence of alcohol and drugs and without a valid license, drove erratically. He became angered by Al-Amri's driving, attempted to overtake him, and when Al-Amri slowed and pulled over, Mokin also stopped, exited his vehicle, and fired several shots into the air.

Al-Amri then exited his car to confront Mokin. After a brief altercation, Al-Amri re-entered his vehicle. As he attempted to close the door, Mokin fired more shots, and a physical struggle ensued. Mokin then shot Al-Amri twice in the upper body, once in the chest and once in the left shoulder, intending to kill him. Al-Amri tried to escape but was shot multiple more times as he fled. Mokin's actions resulted in fatal wounds to Al-Amri's chest, heart, and lungs, as well as other injuries.
