Jerusalem Court Sentences East Jerusalem Resident to 6 Years for Fatal Crash Killing Mother and Infant

The Jerusalem District Court sentenced Tarek Kard, a resident of East Jerusalem, to six years in prison for causing a fatal traffic accident on Route 45. Kard was convicted of two counts of negligent homicide after the crash killed Zipporah Rimel and her infant daughter Noam Rachel Rimel, and left other family members critically injured. In addition to the prison term, Kard received a 15-year driving license suspension, a suspended sentence, and was ordered to pay compensation to the victims' family.

Ephraim Rimel, who lost his wife and daughter in the accident, criticized the sentence as too lenient. He expressed his disappointment to ynet, stating, "Although the prosecution requested 15 years, the court ruled only six. It's a disgrace. There is no other word." He added that the family is shocked by the verdict and expects the prosecution to appeal the decision.
