Former Firefighter Arrested for Plotting Terror Attack on Strategic Site

A 19-year-old man from Kafr Qasim, who served as a volunteer firefighter in central Israel, was arrested approximately one month ago on suspicion of planning terror attacks and attempting to establish a terror cell. The suspect allegedly identified a strategic site in central Israel as a potential target for an attack, using knowledge gained during his national service as a firefighter to scout the location. Investigators believe he exploited his access and familiarity with the site, obtained through his role, to advance his plan.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect had contacted individuals associated with Hamas and an individual identified with Iranian intelligence. He reportedly sought combat training, downloaded instructions for making explosives, and attempted to construct explosive devices. He also sought to expand his operations by recruiting two acquaintances from Kafr Qasim to join the terror cell. These two acquaintances were arrested and detained for about two weeks, but insufficient evidence was found to indict them.

During a search of the suspect's home, airsoft guns and training equipment were confiscated. According to the investigation, his interest in terrorist activities began at age 16 and intensified following the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip. After nearly a month in detention, an indictment is expected to be filed against him tomorrow.
