Israeli Judo Champion Raz Hershko Wins Gold at Budapest Grand Slam
Israeli judoka Raz Hershko secured a gold medal at the Grand Slam tournament in Budapest, competing in the over 78 kg weight class. She defeated France's Celia Cancan in the final match, according to the International Judo Federation (IJF).
Hershko won the final bout with an ippon, executing a harai-goshi throw after her opponent made a mistake. This marks the seventh Grand Slam gold medal for the 28-year-old Israeli athlete.
Cancan, 20, is a former junior world and European champion from the previous year. Hershko is currently ranked second in the world rankings.
Prior to her victory in Budapest, the Olympic silver medalist from this year's Paris Games had already won the European Championships, the Grand Slam in Tbilisi, and the Upper Austria Grand Prix. The Budapest tournament served as the final major event before the upcoming World Championships in Baku.
