Raz Hershko Wins Gold Medal at Budapest Grand Slam Judo Tournament
Israeli judoka Raz Hershko secured a gold medal at the Budapest Grand Slam on Sunday, capping a successful tournament for the Israeli delegation. Hershko, competing in the over 78 kg category, defeated France's Celia Cancan by ippon in the final match to claim the title.
Hershko's path to victory included wins against Fernanda Kambira of Angola in the second round, Sydney Andrews of New Zealand in the quarterfinals, and Emma-Maliis Aktas of Estonia in the semifinals. Her dominant performance culminated in the final, where she achieved an ippon to secure the gold.
This gold medal adds to Hershko's growing list of achievements. Earlier in the tournament, fellow Israelis Yitzhak Aspiz and Carom Primo also earned medals.
In the under 100 kg category, Israeli judoka Yossi Simin reached the bronze medal match but ultimately lost to Daniel Eich of Switzerland. Simin's journey saw him defeat Balint Havaszi of Hungary and Michal Jendrzejewski of Poland before being stopped in the quarterfinals by Niyaz Bilalov of Russia. He then won in the repechage round against Rareș Rasenia of Romania to advance to the bronze medal bout, where he finished in fifth place.
