Raz Hershko Wins Gold at Budapest Grand Slam Judo Tournament

Israeli judoka Raz Hershko secured a gold medal at the Budapest Grand Slam on Sunday, capping a successful tournament for the Israeli team. Hershko, competing in the +78kg category, defeated France's Julia Tolofua in the final with an ippon. This victory follows gold medal wins by Israeli judokas Itzhak Assaf in the -60kg category and Gefen Primo in the -52kg category, who earned bronze.

Hershko's path to the final included victories over opponents from Angola, New Zealand, and Estonia. In the final, she faced Celia Cancan of France, ultimately winning with a decisive ippon. Another Israeli competitor, Yoav Shani (up to 100kg), reached the bronze medal match but lost, finishing in fifth place.

Following her win, Hershko expressed her joy and pride, highlighting the significance of standing on the podium and hearing the Israeli national anthem, especially on the final day of Rosh Hashanah. She thanked her coach, Idan Bar, the professional and medical staff, and the Judo Association for their support. Hershko dedicated her medal to the memory of Yonatan Guttin and his family.
