Englishman's Body Found Near Uman, Suspected Murder

The body of a 45-year-old English Jewish man, a father of seven, was discovered on Sunday in a forest near Uman, Ukraine, bearing signs of violence. The circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation, with the local Jewish community suspecting murder, though police have not officially confirmed foul play. ZAKA's International Division is handling the release of the body for burial.

Aron Ben Harush, head of the mission and deputy head of the United Hatzalah branch in Uman, stated that the individual was found deceased during the holiday period and the case is being examined. United Hatzalah activists are working with authorities to expedite the burial.

In a separate but related development, over 60 draft dodgers, many of them Haredi men, were arrested since last Sunday while attempting to leave Israel, primarily at Ben Gurion Airport and the Taba border crossing. The IDF has not released official numbers or a breakdown of the detainees.

Thousands of Breslov Hasidic followers travel to Uman annually to pray at the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. This year, increased enforcement against draft dodgers has made travel a sensitive issue for the community. Senior Breslov rabbis advised those at risk of arrest to avoid Ben Gurion Airport and refrain from attempting to regularize their status solely for the purpose of travel. An unofficial initiative within the community has also emerged to hold Rosh Hashanah prayers in military prison if travel is blocked, aiming to exert public and operational pressure on the IDF.
