Israel Braces for Intense Heatwave With Red Warnings Issued

Israel is set to experience a significant rise in temperatures starting Sunday, September 13th, with the heatwave intensifying on Monday. Despite it being mid-September, hot weather persists across the country. Several regions have been placed under a "red warning" due to high heat stress.

On Sunday morning, variable clouds are expected to clear, leading to a temperature increase above seasonal norms, particularly noticeable in mountainous and inland areas. The most severe conditions are forecast for the Beit She'an Valley, the Kinneret Valley, and the Jordan River Valley, where the red warning is in effect. Elevated temperatures are also anticipated across much of the eastern and southern parts of the country, including the southern Judean Desert, the Dead Sea area, eastern Lower Galilee, eastern Negev, and the northern Arava.

The most challenging weather conditions will be concentrated in inland, low-lying, and desert regions. Even a slight temperature increase in these areas can significantly heighten heat stress, especially during daylight hours. Heat stress measures the impact of weather on the human body, and prolonged exposure during peak heat can increase the risk of overheating and heatstroke.

Vulnerable groups, including the elderly, young children, and individuals working or exercising outdoors, are advised to take extra precautions. It is recommended to avoid prolonged direct sun exposure during the hottest parts of the day, stay hydrated, and seek cool environments when possible. Symptoms of overheating such as severe weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea, and confusion require immediate attention. If someone experiences a sudden decline in their condition, they should be moved to a cool place and medical help sought promptly.

No significant cooling is expected, and temperatures are predicted to rise further on Monday, continuing the intense heatwave.
