Summer Heat Persists Through Jewish Holidays and Fast Day

Despite the start of the new Hebrew year and the approach of Yom Kippur, Israel is experiencing unseasonably hot and summery weather. On Sunday, temperatures are expected to rise slightly, becoming a bit higher than average for this time of year, particularly in mountainous and inland areas. Heat load will increase, with clear to partly cloudy skies overnight.

Monday, the fast of Gedalia, will see another slight temperature increase, with readings remaining above seasonal norms, especially in the mountains and interior. After morning clouds dissipate, the weather will become pleasant. No significant temperature changes are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, with heat continuing to be above average for the season.

High temperatures predicted for Sunday include: Jerusalem 31°C (88°F), Tel Aviv 31°C (88°F), Haifa 31°C (88°F), Safed 32°C (90°F), Katzrin 36°C (97°F), Tiberias 36°C (97°F), Nazareth 35°C (95°F), Afula 35°C (95°F), Beit She'an 39°C (102°F), Lod 32°C (90°F), Ashdod 31°C (88°F), Ein Gedi 37°C (99°F), Be'er Sheva 34°C (93°F), Mitzpe Ramon 34°C (93°F), and Eilat 39°C (102°F).
