Israeli Windsurfers Dominate World Championships Podium
Israeli windsurfers Tamar Steinberg and Sharon Kantor secured gold and silver medals, respectively, at the World Championships on Saturday. The final race featured three Israeli competitors among the top four, highlighting Israel's strength in the sport.
Steinberg, the newly crowned world champion, expressed immense joy and relief after a challenging race. "I wanted this so much. Not everything we want happens, but this really happened and I'm happy," she stated. She described the medal race as incredibly difficult, particularly the close competition with fellow Israeli Ron. "I felt Sharon breathing down my neck, she also led at the start, but we fought until the end," Steinberg added.
Reflecting on the race, Steinberg noted the unique situation of having multiple Israelis in the final. "This final was almost an Israeli championship final, so it's amazing," she said, also congratulating teammates Daniela and Shahar for their strong performance throughout the week.
Steinberg called 2026 an "amazing year" for her and thanked the Israeli Sailing Association, her coaches, and her support team. She dedicated the victory to her family and friends watching, expressing happiness at bringing them joy.
