Six Israeli Windsurfers Reach World Championship Medal Races

Six Israeli windsurfers have qualified for the medal races at the World Championships in Weymouth-Portland, England, guaranteeing at least one Israeli medal. The final day of qualifying saw a dominant Israeli performance, particularly among the women, with strong showings from the men as well.

Olympic champion Tom Reuveny secured his spot in the top ten by finishing sixth overall. He advanced to the quarterfinals after strong slalom race results, including a first-place finish in one heat. Yoav Omer also qualified for the finals, placing eighth overall, and will compete in the quarterfinals after his slalom performances. Tomer Vardimon finished 21st overall, and Yoav Cohen finished 27th.

In the women's competition, the final qualifying races were canceled due to light winds, meaning yesterday's rankings determined the finalists. Tamar Steinberg, the reigning world vice-champion, advanced directly to the final after winning the qualifying round. She will start the final with one win already secured, needing just one more victory to claim the title.

Sharon Kantor, the Olympic vice-champion, also secured a place in the final, starting with one point. She is one race away from winning the championship after finishing second in qualifying. Shahar Tobi and Daniela Peleg secured their spots in the quarterfinals, finishing seventh and tenth respectively.

The medal races are scheduled to take place tomorrow, where the top windsurfers will compete for the world championship titles.
