Israel's Steinberg Wins Windsurfing World Championship Gold

Israeli windsurfer Tamar Steinberg clinched the gold medal at the World Championships in England, becoming the world champion. Her teammate Sharon Kantor secured the silver medal, marking a historic achievement for Israeli sailing and sports with a rare double podium finish.

Daniela Peleg also qualified for the finals, ultimately finishing in fourth place. This marks the fourth time Israel has achieved a double podium at the World Championships. Steinberg and Kantor had earned direct berths to the finals the previous day, finishing first and second respectively in the preliminary rounds. Steinberg had dominated the preliminaries, holding the top spot throughout, while Kantor showed significant improvement to secure her second-place qualification.

In the men's competition, Israeli Olympic champion Tom Reuveny faced disappointment. After initially qualifying for the final in first place, a rerun of his semi-final heat due to a false start by two competitors saw him finish third. He was unable to qualify for the final in the subsequent rerun.

Shahar Tobi also competed, reaching the quarterfinals but failing to advance to the semifinals. The Israeli women's team, coached by Shahar Tzuberi, has been recognized as the world's strongest for several consecutive years.

Union chairman Shi Buber praised Steinberg's performance, noting her recent European Championship win and her consistent top form. He highlighted Kantor's strong comeback and expressed pride in the team's overall success. Buber also emphasized the critical need for increased funding for equipment in the sport, advocating for separate budget allocations to ensure athletes can maintain the necessary gear, which he believes is essential for preserving the sport's future in Israel.
