Israel's Steinberg Wins Windsurfing World Championship Gold

Israeli windsurfer Tamar Steinberg, 20, secured the gold medal at the World Championships in Weymouth, England. Her compatriot Sharon Kantor claimed the silver medal, while Daniella Peleg finished fourth.

Steinberg dominated the competition from the outset, leading the preliminary heats by a significant margin after winning seven out of sixteen races. This secured her a direct entry into the final with a bonus point, meaning she only needed to win one race to clinch the title.

The final race was dramatic, with all three Israeli competitors initially leading. Peleg was penalized for an infraction at the first buoy, dropping her to fourth. Kantor led into the final buoys, but Steinberg overtook her in the closing stages to cross the finish line first, securing her first world championship gold.

This victory marks a rare double for Steinberg, who is also the reigning European champion and was the world runner-up last year. For Kantor, who started the competition in 16th place, this silver is her second world championship medal, following her gold in 2024. She also won silver at the Paris Olympics.

In the men's competition, Olympic champion Tom Reuveny was disqualified from the final after a false start in a re-run race, despite initially qualifying by winning his semi-final. Yoav Omer was eliminated earlier in the quarter-finals.

Separately, Israeli judoka Kerem Primo won a bronze medal at the Grand Slam in Budapest in the under-63kg category.
