Six Israelis Reach Windsurfing World Championship Medal Races

Six Israeli windsurfers have advanced to the medal races at the World Championships in Weymouth-Portland, England, securing at least one Israeli medal. The final day of preliminary heats saw a strong Israeli performance, with six athletes finishing in the top ten overall.

In the men's competition, Olympic champion Tom Reuveny secured his spot in the top ten, finishing sixth overall after placing ninth, first, and fifteenth in Friday's slalom races, qualifying him for the quarterfinals. Yoav Omer also made it to the final round, finishing eighth overall with slalom results of thirty-fifth, twenty-first, and fifth, and will compete in the quarterfinals. Tomer Vardimon finished twenty-first overall, and Yoav Cohen placed twenty-seventh.

Among the women, Tamar Steinberg, the reigning world runner-up, advanced directly to the final by finishing first in the preliminary heats. She will start the final round with one win, and the first competitor to achieve two wins will be crowned champion. Olympic silver medalist Sharon Kantor also secured a place in the final, starting with one point, and is one race win away from the title after finishing second in the preliminaries. Shahar Tobi finished seventh and Daniela Peleg tenth, both securing spots in the quarterfinals.

The final day of preliminary heats was affected by light winds, leading to the cancellation of the women's final heats. The women's final standings were determined by Thursday's results, which saw Steinberg and Kantor secure top positions.
