Israeli Windsurfers Achieve Historic Gold and Silver at World Championships

Israel's sailing team achieved a historic milestone at the World Championships in England, with Tamar Steinberg clinching the gold medal in windsurfing and Sharon Kantor securing the silver. Steinberg, 20, dominated the competition, finishing first in the qualifying heats and entering the medal race with a significant point advantage. The dramatic final race saw Steinberg and Kantor neck-and-neck, with Steinberg ultimately crossing the finish line first to claim her first world title.

This marks the fourth time in the World Championships that two Israeli women have stood on the podium together, highlighting a strong tradition in the sport. Steinberg now holds both the world and European titles simultaneously, a rare achievement. Kantor, who started the competition in 16th place, earned her second career world championship medal, having previously won gold in 2024 and silver at the Paris Olympics.

Daniela Peleg, who also qualified for the final, finished in fourth place after an incident at the first buoy. In the men's competition, Olympic champion Tom Reuveny's hopes for a medal were dashed when his semi-final race was canceled due to a false start. Reuveny finished third in the subsequent re-race, failing to advance to the final. Yoav Omer was eliminated earlier in the quarter-finals.
