Tamar Steinberg Crowned World Champion, Israel Dominates Windsurfing Finals

Tamar Steinberg was crowned the world champion in windsurfing on Saturday, with teammate Sharon Kantor securing the silver medal in a remarkable display of Israeli dominance. The two athletes spoke at a press conference following their victories, celebrating the significant achievement for the Israeli women's national team.

Steinberg expressed her long-held ambition for the title, stating, "I've been chasing this achievement for a long time. I came to the competition hungry to win and succeed. I felt from the start that I had an excellent opening and was leading. It was a good race, and I'm happy, it was amazing."

She also highlighted the strong Israeli presence in the decisive heat, where three out of the four competitors were from the national team. "Daniela moved up two places and reached the final, and Sharon and I both came with a chance to win. There was a fight between us from the beginning. She led at first, then I overtook her. It was a great race, reminding me of the Israeli Championship where the three of us always reach the final. It's important for me to say thank you; this is months of work by the entire team," Steinberg added.

Kantor, pleased with her silver medal, commented, "I am very satisfied with the result and the way I managed to climb a bit higher. The final was certainly exciting, and I gave my maximum. Sometimes there are differences in ability, and Tamar surfed better. I am very satisfied with myself and the entire process." She also noted the unique feeling of competing in a final with so many Israeli athletes, comparing it to a team training session, but emphasized her drive to win regardless of the competitor.

Women's national team coach Shachar Tzuberi praised the team's performance, aiming to be as prepared as possible for the World Championships. He acknowledged Kantor's challenging year and her incredible competition, showcasing her strong abilities. "From here, we need to continue to progress and close the gaps, but if this is our starting point, we are in a good position. She showed she has character and that she fights," Tzuberi said.

Shai Buber, Chairman of the Israel Sailing Association, expressed delight at starting the year with such achievements, calling the team the best in the world and urging them to maintain their status. He expressed hope for three medals in Los Angeles and stressed the importance of equipment in the sport.
