Tamar Steinberg Crowned World Champion in Windsurfing

Tamar Steinberg, 20, has won the world championship title in windsurfing, achieving a lifelong goal after a dominant performance throughout the competition. She led all 70 competitors, finishing first in all five preliminary rounds. Steinberg secured the victory in the final race, narrowly defeating her teammate Sharon Kantor, who took silver.

This world title marks a significant achievement for Steinberg, who has been a top contender globally for two years. She previously won the European championship in May and was the world runner-up last year. Her consistent success this season, with podium finishes in nearly every event, underscores her professional superiority.

Steinberg expressed her immense joy and relief, stating, "I've been chasing this achievement for a long time." She recalled the disappointment of finishing second last year and arrived at this competition "very, very hungry to win and succeed." She acknowledged the challenging final race format where "anything can happen" and expressed happiness that the conditions ultimately favored her.

She emphasized the crucial role of her support system, including head coach Shahar Tzuberi, assistant coach Oded Osher, fitness coach Eyal Shlomi, and psychologist Daniela Cohen. Steinberg also thanked the Israeli Windsurfing Association for providing comprehensive support and her personal sponsors, Shikun & Binui and Strauss, for their backing. As an outstanding athlete in the military, she feels privileged to represent Israel and bring home achievements.

Looking ahead, Steinberg aims to maintain her drive through the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, viewing her pursuit of excellence as a continuous daily endeavor.
