Tamar Steinberg Crowned World Champion in Windsurfing

Tamar Steinberg, 20, has been crowned the world champion in windsurfing, achieving a "double" after winning the European championship in May. This victory comes after a dominant season where she consistently placed on the podium and led the competition throughout.

Steinberg secured the world title on Rosh Hashanah (Saturday), capping off a remarkable year that saw her finish as the runner-up in the same competition last year. She led all 70 competitors during the preliminary rounds, winning every race, and ultimately triumphed in the final race.

In the final, Steinberg narrowly defeated her teammate Sharon Kantor, who took silver. Steinberg described the win as a long-pursued achievement, expressing relief after the disappointment of last year's second-place finish. She highlighted the intense final race, noting that her teammate Kantor initially led before Steinberg overtook her.

Steinberg acknowledged the crucial support system behind her success, thanking her coaching staff, including head coach Shahar Tzuberi and assistant coach Ohad Asher, as well as the team's physical trainer, psychologist, and the broader support network provided by the sailing association. She also expressed gratitude to her personal sponsors, Shikun & Binui and Strauss.

Looking ahead, Steinberg aims to maintain her competitive drive, with the ultimate goal of competing in the Los Angeles Olympics. She emphasized the strong camaraderie and mutual support within the Israeli national team, crediting it as a significant factor in their collective success and her personal achievements.
