Tamar Steinberg Wins World Championship in Windsurfing

Tamar Steinberg, 20, has been crowned the world champion in windsurfing, achieving a lifelong goal after a dominant performance throughout the competition. This victory marks a significant milestone, completing a 'double' after she also secured the European Championship title in May. Last year, Steinberg finished as the world championship runner-up, a result that fueled her determination for this year's event.

Steinberg led the field of 70 competitors from start to finish, consistently placing first in all five preliminary rounds. In the final race, she narrowly defeated her national teammate Sharon Kantor, who took silver. Steinberg described the win as the culmination of a long pursuit, expressing immense satisfaction after the disappointment of last year's second-place finish.

She highlighted the strong team support system, crediting head coach Shahar Tzuberi, assistant coach Oded Osher, fitness coach Eyal Shlomi, and psychologist Daniela Cohen, among others. Steinberg also acknowledged the contributions of the national sailing association and her personal sponsors, Shikun & Binui and Strauss, for their crucial backing. As an outstanding athlete in the military, she views representing Israel and achieving success as a privilege.

Looking ahead, Steinberg aims to maintain her competitive drive, with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the Los Angeles Olympics. She emphasized the unique advantage of training alongside top-tier international competitors within the Israeli national team, fostering a supportive and highly competitive environment that drives individual success. Despite the intense competition, she noted the strong camaraderie and positive relationships among the team members.
