Israeli Windsurfers Dominate World Championships Podium
Israeli windsurfers Tamar Steinberg and Sharon Kantor secured gold and silver medals, respectively, at the World Championships on Saturday. The final race featured three Israeli competitors out of four, highlighting a significant achievement for Israeli sailing and sports.
Steinberg, the newly crowned world champion, expressed her immense joy and relief after a challenging race. "I wanted this so badly. Not everything we want happens, but this really happened and I'm happy," she stated. She described the race as incredibly difficult, particularly the medal race against fellow Israeli Ron, and acknowledged the pressure from Kantor.
"I felt Sharon breathing down my neck, she also led at the start, but we fought until the end," Steinberg recounted. She also congratulated Kantor, Daniela, and Shahar for their strong performances throughout the week, noting that the final felt almost like an Israeli championship.
Steinberg reflected on 2026 as an amazing year and thanked the Israeli Sailing Association, her coaches, and her support team. She expressed happiness in bringing a smile to her family and friends watching from Israel.
