Israel Dominates World Sailing Championships with Gold and Silver Medals

Israel has once again proven its prowess in sailing, with Tamar Steinberg clinching the world championship title in the iQ Foil class in England. Sharon Kantor secured the silver medal, finishing second.

Steinberg, 20, who was the previous world runner-up and the current European champion, dominated the competition. She won seven out of sixteen races, including the first four, and led the standings throughout the preliminary rounds. She entered the final race with a bonus point and delivered an impressive performance to secure the win.

Kantor, the 2024 world champion and Olympic silver medalist, had a slower start, initially ranking 16th. However, she steadily climbed the leaderboard, finishing in the top ten in eleven of her sixteen races to secure second place overall. She also entered the final with a bonus point but finished second to Steinberg.

Daniela Peleg had the most dramatic journey to the finals. Starting in 32nd place, she made a significant comeback, climbing 17 spots on the third day and eventually breaking into the top ten. She qualified for the final race by winning a tiebreaker against France's Helene Noesmoen. Peleg finished fourth in the final race, narrowly missing out on a medal.

In the men's competition, Tom Reuveny, the Olympic champion, advanced to the final after strong performances in the quarter-finals and semi-finals. Yoav Omer, who had led the competition earlier, finished eighth overall after failing to secure a spot in the semi-finals.

The championship in England was the largest and most significant world championship ever held at the venue, attracting approximately 250 competitors from over 40 countries.
