Israeli Windsurfers Secure Medals at World Championships
Six Israeli windsurfers are competing for medals at the iQ Foil World Championships in England, with at least one medal already guaranteed for the Israeli delegation. Tamar Steinberg and Sharon Kantor have secured their spots in the medal race after finishing first and second in the preliminary heats. They will compete against two other sailors for the top three podium positions. Other Israeli competitors vying for a place in the medal race include Shahar Tobi, the silver medalist at the European Championships who finished seventh in the preliminaries, and Daniela Peleg, who qualified for the quarter-finals by finishing tenth.
In the men's division, Olympic champion Tom Reuveny, who placed sixth in the preliminaries, and Yoav Omer, who finished eighth, will also compete in the medal races starting from the quarter-finals. Steinberg, the reigning world runner-up and recent European champion, dominated the preliminary heats, winning seven out of sixteen races and leading the competition throughout. She needs just one win in the final race to secure the gold medal, carrying a bonus point into the final.
Kantor, the 2024 world champion and Olympic silver medalist, had a different trajectory, climbing from 16th place to second overall through consistent performances. She also enters the final with a bonus point, meaning a single race victory will secure her the gold medal.
