Israeli Windsurfers Achieve Historic Success at World Championships

Israeli windsurfers achieved unprecedented success at the World Championships in England, with Tamar Steinberg winning the gold medal and Sharon Kantor securing the silver. Daniela Peleg finished in fourth place, completing a remarkable showing for the Israeli women's team. This marks the fourth time Israel has achieved a double podium finish at the World Championships.

Steinberg and Kantor had qualified directly for the final race the previous day, finishing first and second respectively after five preliminary rounds. Steinberg had dominated the preliminaries, holding the top spot throughout, while Kantor showed significant improvement to secure second place. Peleg also qualified for the final after a strong performance in her semi-final heat.

Under the championship format, the top two qualifiers, Steinberg and Kantor, started the final race with an advantage. The first competitor to achieve two wins would be crowned champion. Steinberg, who was last year's world runner-up, secured the title. The Israeli women's team, coached by Shahar Tzuberi, has been considered the world's strongest for several consecutive years.

In the men's competition, Tom Reuveny faced disappointment. After initially celebrating his qualification for the final from first place, a restart of his semi-final heat due to a false start by two competitors saw him finish third. In the subsequent race, Reuveny failed to qualify for the final. Another Israeli competitor, Shahar Tobi, reached the quarter-finals but did not advance to the semi-finals.
