The story · English

The opening day of the Windsurfing World Championships in Weymouth-Portland, England, saw strong performances from the Israeli national teams. Both the men's and women's teams completed four races on Monday.

In the women's competition, Tamar Steinberg, last year's world runner-up, dominated the day, winning all four races. She currently leads the 70-competitor field. Other Israeli women also placed well: Shahar Tobi, the European runner-up, is in 13th place after finishing races in 9th, 7th, 20th, and 29th. Sharon Kantor, the Olympic runner-up, is 16th with finishes of 7th, 27th, 26th, and 4th. Daniela Peleg, the European champion, is in 32nd place following finishes of 27th, 33rd, 53rd, and 5th.

The Israeli men's team also had a successful start. Yoav Omer is currently in fourth place after securing finishes of 3rd, 1st, 1st, and 9th. Tom Reuveny, the Olympic champion, is in 13th place with results of 3rd, 13th, 5th, and 5th. Tomer Vardimon is in 17th place, and Yoav Cohen is 30th.
