Israel Foils Major Weapons Smuggling Attempt from Jordan Border

Israeli security forces thwarted an attempt to smuggle dozens of weapons across the eastern border overnight in the Jordan Valley region. Two Arab men, identified as residents of Jericho in their 50s, were arrested during the operation. Authorities seized a total of 34 pistols and two M-16 rifles from the suspects.

The operation was initiated based on intelligence indicating preparations for a significant arms smuggling effort originating from the Jordan border area. In response, officers from the Jordan Border Unit of the Central District's Judea and Samaria division, combatants from the Border Police's Judea and Samaria unit, forces from the Jordan Valley Brigade, and the "Mar'ul" unit were deployed.

Security forces set up ambushes at multiple locations and utilized specialized technological equipment to detect and intercept the smugglers in real-time. The two suspects were located, apprehended, and searched, leading to the discovery and seizure of the weapons. The confiscated firearms have been transferred for further examination and processing by security agencies.

The arrested men have been taken for interrogation by the Central District's Judea and Samaria investigative unit. Investigators are working to determine the intended destination of the weapons, the identities of those behind the smuggling attempt, and whether additional individuals are involved. Security officials emphasized their ongoing commitment to combating arms smuggling along the eastern border, citing concerns that such weapons could fall into the hands of hostile elements.
