Border Police Seal Tunnel Dug Near Jerusalem Settlements
Border Police forces, in cooperation with the IDF, have sealed a tunnel discovered near the Palestinian village of al-Jib, close to the separation barrier and the Israeli settlements of Givon and Givat Ze'ev. The tunnel, found approximately two weeks ago, was sealed on Tuesday evening by fighters from the Jerusalem Envelope Border Police.
Following the tunnel's discovery, focused operational and intelligence efforts led to the arrest of a suspect found in possession of digging tools. The entrance to the tunnel had been concealed within an ancient water cistern, which served to hide the excavation activity.
An examination of the tunnel revealed it was in an advanced stage of construction. An archaeological survey of the site indicated the tunnel entrance was disguised inside the old cistern.
