Massive Tunnel Discovered Near Jerusalem Border, Sealed by Security Forces
Israeli police announced the discovery of a large tunnel near the seam line barrier close to the Jerusalem area, specifically in the village of al-Jib. The tunnel was found approximately two weeks ago, in proximity to the settlements of Givat Ze'ev and Giv'on.
Following the initial detection, Border Police forces from the Jerusalem Envelope unit conducted targeted operational and intelligence gathering activities. During this operation, a suspect was apprehended with excavation tools in their possession. Investigations revealed the tunnel was in an advanced stage of digging.
An archaeological examination of the site determined that the tunnel's entrance was concealed within an ancient water cistern, which had been used to hide the excavation activities. The Border Police, along with IDF forces, completed the sealing of the tunnel yesterday.
Security forces stated they will continue their efforts to locate and thwart infrastructure near the seam line barrier to ensure the safety of residents in the area.
