Israeli Forces Uncover Tunnel Hidden in Ancient Cistern Near Jerusalem
Israeli security forces discovered a tunnel under construction in the village of Al-Jib, near the settlements of Givon and Givat Ze'ev, north of Jerusalem. The tunnel, located near the security barrier, was first spotted on August 28, with excavation already at an advanced stage. Following the discovery, Jerusalem Border Police officers initiated a targeted operation and intelligence investigation in the area. A suspect found with digging tools was apprehended.
An inspection of the tunnel and its surroundings, involving archaeologists, revealed that the construction was concealed within an ancient cistern. Jerusalem Border Police, in cooperation with IDF soldiers, completed the sealing of the tunnel on Wednesday night. The purpose of the tunnel's construction has not yet been specified by authorities.
The police stated that security forces will continue operations to locate and neutralize any suspicious infrastructure near the security barrier and to protect local residents.
