IDF Arrests Palestinian Police Officers for Detaining Israeli Reservist

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have arrested three Palestinian police officers involved in stopping and assaulting an Israeli reservist soldier in Area C, near Beitunia, approximately two weeks ago. The Palestinian officers had set up a roadblock and detained the reservist, who was armed. The IDF spokesperson stated that the officers exceeded their authority to operate in Area C and are currently under investigation by security forces. Security officials described the incident as a severe deviation by Palestinian security mechanisms, endangering the Israeli's life and involving aggressive force against him.

The IDF emphasized its commitment to security coordination as directed by the political echelon, while asserting it will not tolerate any deviation from established procedures. Video footage from the incident shows Palestinian officers alongside the Israeli's vehicle, with one officer identifying themselves as Palestinian police. The head of the Binyamin Regional Council and Chairman of the Yesha Council, Israel Gantz, praised the arrests, stating, "This is an important and necessary step that sends a clear message: the State of Israel is sovereign in Area C, and we will not allow the Palestinian Authority's mechanisms to set up roadblocks there, abduct Israeli citizens, and use violence against them."

The reservist soldier recounted that he was unaware he was approaching a Palestinian police checkpoint. "As I approached, they pulled me over, opened the door, and I immediately put down my weapon," he said. "They said, 'No, no weapon, Palestinian police' or 'Abu Mazen,' many things in Arabic." He stated that the officers then cocked their weapons and aimed them at him. While he held his weapon, one officer grabbed his hand, preventing him from operating it. The officers then attacked him, breaking his glasses and phone, taking his car keys, and eventually his weapon. They forcibly removed him from the vehicle and beat him, subsequently driving him towards Ramallah for about half an hour before allowing him to speak with a Palestinian liaison official.
