Israeli Reservist Alleges Violent Beating by Palestinian Police Near Ramallah

Israeli reservist soldier Shlomo Rozental recounted his arrest and assault by Palestinian police on Sunday night near the Ma'ozim route in what he says is Area C. Rozental told the program "The Patriots" with Yinon Magal that a Palestinian police jeep blocked his path, and about 30 armed officers surrounded his vehicle, demanding he exit. When he tried to drive away, his car was disabled and officers attempted to seize his weapon.

Rozental described being pepper-sprayed, beaten, and having his glasses broken during the violent encounter. He said the officers forcibly removed him from the car, confiscated his car keys, phone, and weapon, and continued to assault him outside the vehicle. He was then handcuffed and transported toward Ramallah, where he was verbally abused and only later allowed to contact the IDF liaison officer. After about an hour and a half, an IDF force arrived and took him into custody.

Rozental criticized initial media reports that inaccurately claimed he mistakenly entered Area A, clarifying he was in Area C and that no civilians were present during the incident, only Palestinian police. He called for a reassessment of the Palestinian police, describing them as "a handful of terrorists armed and acting with impunity," warning that similar violence could happen to others, including vulnerable individuals.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions and security challenges in the West Bank, particularly regarding interactions between Israeli security personnel and Palestinian Authority forces. Rozental's testimony adds to concerns about the conduct of Palestinian police in disputed territories and the risks faced by Israeli reservists traveling through these areas.
