MK Avi Maoz Demands Investigation After IDF Soldier Detained by Palestinian Police in Area C

MK Avi Maoz, chairman of the Noam party, has called on Defense Minister Israel Katz to investigate the circumstances surrounding the detention of an IDF reservist by Palestinian police in Area C. According to Maoz and his party, the soldier, who was on leave, was stopped at a checkpoint established by Palestinian forces, had his weapon confiscated, was pepper-sprayed, and forcibly transferred to Ramallah territory.

Maoz's letter questions how Palestinian police were able to operate in Area C, who authorized the checkpoint and the soldier's transfer to Ramallah, and how the soldier was returned to Israel. He also demands to know what actions have been taken against the Palestinian personnel involved and whether an official investigation has been opened.

The letter, also sent to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, criticizes the Israeli military spokesperson and official bodies for not fully disclosing the severity of the incident. Maoz emphasized that it is unacceptable for a Palestinian force to detain an Israeli soldier, seize his weapon, and transfer him to Ramallah without accountability, stating that Israel should demand responsibility rather than merely securing the soldier's return.
