IDF Arrests Palestinian Officers for Attacking Israeli in Area C

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) arrested three Palestinian police officers this week who allegedly established an illegal roadblock in Area C near the Palestinian town of Beitunia. The officers are accused of detaining and assaulting an Israeli civilian. According to the IDF Spokesperson, the officers acted outside their authority in this area, which is under full Israeli security control.

Security officials described the incident as a "severe deviation by the mechanisms" that endangered the Israeli civilian's life through aggressive force. This event adds to a series of incidents where Palestinian police have allegedly overstepped their authority in Area C, which constitutes about 60% of the West Bank and is fully under Israeli civilian and security control according to the Oslo Accords.

Previous documented cases in the Beitunia area include Palestinian police interfering with Israeli Border Police activities and an incident where Palestinian officers allegedly beat a Palestinian detainee near Beitar Illit. The IDF stated that while security coordination with the Palestinian Authority continues as directed by political leadership, any deviation from agreed-upon procedures will be dealt with decisively.

The Beitunia area, near Jerusalem, has been the site of several security incidents over the years, including counter-terrorism operations by the IDF and the Shin Bet, as well as clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinian police operating in the vicinity.
