IDF Charges Three Reservists with Abuse of Gaza Detainee in Custody

The Israel Defense Forces announced on Tuesday that three reservist soldiers will face charges of aggravated abuse against a detainee from Gaza. The allegations stem from an incident in December 2024 at the "Naftali" detention facility, where the soldiers reportedly took the detainee to a shower room under the pretense of a disciplinary talk while he was handcuffed and blindfolded. There, they allegedly beat him without any prior provocation or misconduct on his part, stopping only after noticing his injuries. The detainee, an illegal Gaza resident in Israel since August 2023, was arrested by security forces in October 2024. His detention order was canceled in late December 2024, and he was deported back to Gaza before the investigation began, thus he is not a witness in the case. The indictment is supported by testimonies from the accused and other soldiers collected during the Military Police investigation. Following the investigation findings and after the suspects were given a hearing opportunity, the military prosecution filed the indictment against the three on July 1, 2026.
