Israeli Military Prosecutes Reservists for Alleged Abuse of Gaza Detainee

The Israeli military has filed charges against three reservist soldiers accused of aggravated abuse of a security detainee at the "Naftali" detention facility. The investigation began after a report in December 2024 raised suspicions of mistreatment of a detainee from Gaza. Following a military police inquiry and hearings with the suspects, the military prosecution submitted the indictment on July 1, 2026.

According to the indictment, the accused took the handcuffed and blindfolded detainee to a shower room under the pretense of a disciplinary talk, where they allegedly beat him without any prior provocation. They reportedly stopped only after noticing the detainee was injured. The charges are supported by testimonies from the suspects and other soldiers interviewed during the investigation.

The detainee was an illegal resident from the Gaza Strip who had been in Israel without authorization since August 2023 and was arrested in October 2024. His detention order was canceled at the end of December 2024, and he was deported back to Gaza before the investigation began, so he is not listed as a witness in the case. This development follows the earlier dismissal of charges against members of "Force 100" in a related matter.
