Investigation Reveals New Details on Israeli Soldiers’ Handling of Palestinian Detainee in Gaza

New details have emerged from an investigation into the treatment of a Palestinian detainee by Israeli soldiers at a military post in Beit Hanoun, Gaza. The detainee, suspected of terrorism, was captured about three weeks ago after approaching the post manned by reserve soldiers, including members of the Nitzach Yehuda Battalion. After his arrest, soldiers restrained him to a field bed with a blindfold and handcuffs following his aggressive behavior, which included banging his head against walls and the floor.

The investigation revealed that tying the detainee to the bed was not an approved method under Israeli military protocols for restraining prisoners. Initially, soldiers involved in the incident lied about the circumstances, but some later admitted to their actions after the inquiry began. Those who confessed included the soldier who tied the detainee, the one who filmed the incident, and others present at the scene.

The military is expected to conclude the investigation soon, determining whether the incident involves criminal conduct warranting a Military Police investigation or if disciplinary action within the battalion will suffice. This case follows a series of incidents since October 7 where soldiers’ own recordings have been used as propaganda against the IDF and Israel.

Separately, the IDF has engaged with Christian leaders in southern Lebanon expressing regret over a soldier’s 21-day detention for being filmed smoking near a statue of Mary in Lebanon.
