Israel Sees Sharp Decline in Student Performance on International PISA Test
Recent data from the 2025 PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) tests reveal a significant drop in the performance of Israeli students across all tested subjects, falling considerably below the OECD average. Compared to the 2022 results, Israel saw a decline of 38 points in reading comprehension, 25 points in mathematics, and 23 points in science.
In reading comprehension, Israel dropped five places to 31st out of 38 participating OECD countries. The country also fell two places in science to 33rd, and one place in mathematics, also ranking 33rd in that subject. The Ministry of Education described the drop in scores within the state education system, relative to the 2022 exam, as "particularly unusual."
