Israir to Launch Flights to New York Amid High Holiday Season

Israir is set to commence operations on one of the most sought-after routes for Israeli travelers, launching flights to New York City next Tuesday, September 15. This move is anticipated to increase competition on the route, though initial pricing suggests it may not immediately lead to more affordable travel.

According to reports, passengers wishing to fly during the upcoming holiday period will face significantly high fares, with tickets starting at $1,900 and potentially rising. Even for those planning to travel after the holidays, prices are expected to remain steep, around $1,600, a reduction of only about $300 from the holiday season rate. These prices are considerably higher than those offered by competitors like El Al and American airlines for travel in the early winter.

The introduction of Israir's service raises questions about whether it will truly benefit consumers or simply add more options without substantially lowering costs. While additional flights could enhance competition and passenger choice, the reported prices do not currently indicate a significant financial advantage for Israeli travelers.

Previously, Israir CEO Uri Sirkis had stated in an interview that flights would begin shortly after receiving approval from U.S. authorities. Although this approval was granted about two weeks ago, the inaugural flight is scheduled for over a week later.
