SAS Scandinavian Airlines Resumes Direct Flights to Tel Aviv

SAS, the Scandinavian airline, is set to resume direct flights between Tel Aviv and Copenhagen starting October 26th. This marks a return to Israel after the company previously suspended its operations in the region. The airline will operate four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturday evenings, utilizing new Airbus A320neo aircraft.

This resumption follows a previous attempt by SAS to re-establish the route in October 2023, after more than a decade without direct flights. That service, initially three flights per week, was short-lived as SAS halted operations in Israel and other Middle Eastern destinations shortly thereafter. The new schedule offers a higher frequency than the previous iteration.

The enhanced service will include two classes of travel, Economy and Business. Passengers will also benefit from improved onboard amenities, as SAS's Airbus A320 fleet has recently been equipped with high-speed Starlink internet, expected to be available on the Tel Aviv route, allowing passengers to stay connected during flights.

SAS's return is part of a broader trend of airlines gradually restoring services to Israel, following a period where security concerns led many foreign carriers to reduce or freeze their flights to Ben Gurion Airport. The airline's presence offers Israeli travelers a direct link to Denmark and a convenient connection to other Northern European destinations via Copenhagen. The long-term viability of this route remains to be seen.
