Israeli Average Salary Drops Significantly in July After Previous Gains
The average salary per salaried job in Israel saw a notable decrease in July 2026, falling to 14,241 shekels. This represents a 6.45% drop from June 2026, when the average salary stood at 15,223 shekels. Despite this recent decline, the July salary is still 3.3% higher than in July 2025, which recorded an average of 13,790 shekels.
Concurrently, the number of salaried positions in the economy increased slightly to 4.492 million in July 2026, a 0.4% rise from June 2026 and a 1.2% increase compared to July 2025. These figures are based on monthly employer reports to the National Insurance Institute and do not include unemployment benefit recipients. The calculation of the average salary per job does not account for the number of days an employee worked within the month.
Trend data from the Central Bureau of Statistics indicates a general upward trend in average salaries, both in current and fixed prices, over the preceding months. In the April-June 2026 period, salaries rose by 6.9% annually in current prices and 4.3% in real terms (adjusted for inflation). The number of salaried jobs remained stable during the second quarter, following a 2.3% decrease in the first quarter.
The non-financial sector remains the largest segment of the economy, accounting for approximately 63% of all salaried jobs, with an average salary of 16,262 shekels in June 2026. The high-tech sector, a key growth engine, experienced a significant salary increase, with the average reaching 36,584 shekels in June 2026, an 11.7% jump from the previous year. However, the number of high-tech jobs remained largely unchanged, comprising about 9.4% of all salaried positions.
