Netanyahu: Israel Controls 60% of Gaza, No Retreat Planned
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared on Wednesday that Israel controls 60% of the Gaza Strip and has no intention of withdrawing from its current positions. Speaking near the Gaza border, Netanyahu stated, "We control the territory. We are not retreating. We are staying on this line. We control 60% of the strip, and more is to come as we eliminate terrorists threatening us, which we do regularly."
Netanyahu also addressed operations against Hamas leadership, noting, "Yesterday we took out the Hamas head of internal security. We will surely learn some things." He reiterated Israel's objective to disarm Hamas and demilitarize the Gaza Strip, asserting that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel, a goal he believes is largely achieved but requires further completion.
The Prime Minister visited an IDF post near the Gaza border alongside Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman, and commander of the 99th Division Brig. Gen. Elad Tzuri. During the visit, he received an operational briefing on the forces' activities, missions in the area, and efforts to neutralize threats while ensuring the security of forces and Israeli communities.
