James Tavernier Arrives in Israel for Maccabi Tel Aviv Transfer

English defender James Tavernier landed in Israel late Tuesday night to undergo medical tests ahead of his anticipated signing with Maccabi Tel Aviv. The 34-year-old, who arrives as a free agent after an 11-year tenure with Scotland's Rangers, will reunite with former teammate Kenny Miller, now a coach for the Israeli State Cup holders.

Tavernier, born in Bradford, becomes Maccabi Tel Aviv's fourth summer acquisition, joining Dan Glazer, Aster Skulari, and Gabi Kaniykovsky. This move follows Maccabi Tel Aviv's recent loss of Roy Revivo, who signed with Elche.

During his decade at Rangers, the right-back was a key offensive contributor, accumulating 148 goals and 141 assists. In his final season, where he saw reduced playing time, he scored eight goals and provided four assists. He had expressed a desire to leave at the end of the season, leading to his free transfer to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Previously, Tavernier played for Newcastle and was linked with a return there, as well as moves to Nice and other top European leagues last summer. He now joins Miller's squad following their European elimination.
