Maccabi Tel Aviv Nears Signing of Star Defender Tavernier
Maccabi Tel Aviv is on the verge of signing James Tavernier, a prominent right-back who previously played for Rangers. The club is expected to announce the acquisition of Tavernier, along with another player, Gabi Kanyikovsky, within the next 24 hours. Both players are scheduled for medical examinations on Wednesday before finalizing their contracts.
Tavernier, 34, joins Maccabi Tel Aviv on a free transfer. He is seen as a significant reinforcement for the right-back position, bringing much-needed skills in direct free kicks and crosses into the penalty area. He will reunite with Maccabi Tel Aviv's manager, Robbie Keane, with whom he played in Scotland. Professional director Steven Vaharnik believes Tavernier's attacking prowess and passing ability will benefit the team both offensively and defensively.
To make room for Tavernier, the club plans to loan out current player Crvin Andrade. Maccabi Tel Aviv is also reportedly seeking a solution for Yonatan Nikolascu to free up a roster spot for another foreign player.
